Riverside Park and Whitewater Wave

Client: Town of Woodfin

The Town of Woodfin hired Equinox to design an expansion of Riverside Park that will include improvements to the existing park, double the size of the park, and add The Whitewater Wave. This riverfront park will be Western North Carolina’s premier urban whitewater destination and serve as a central destination along the Woodfin Greenway and Blueway. Equinox developed a Master Plan that defines the park as inviting and inclusive to all members of the community. A park that will build community by being accessible, welcoming, and celebrating the diverse assets of the Town. In addition, the park will tell the story of the French Broad River and its forces on the Appalachian Mountains through passive and active interpretation. With the Master Plan complete, Equinox is leading the effort to develop the construction documents and permitting so the park can be built as envisioned by the Town and the community.  Key features are the greenway connections and kiosks, multiple river access points, including beach access and a boat ramp, a play slope, a grand pavilion overlook of the Whitewater Wave, a train platform for access to the historic Craggy rail line, a stage, shade pavilions, a pump track, creek access, and riparian enhancements and habitat creation.
