Oak Ridge Natural Asset Guidebook

Client: Legacy Parks Foundation

This Guidebook was created at the request of the City of Oak Ridge, Roane County, and Anderson County civic and business leaders in response to recommendations from the Oak Ridge Blueprint Plan that urged the exploration of both recreational opportunities and enhancement of the area’s natural assets. Under the leadership of the Legacy Parks Foundation, Equinox led the development of the document. The Guidebook is intended to be a living, working plan that will serve as a philosophical and practical set of guidelines for how to maximize the area’s natural assets so that they provide a sustainable foundation to engage residents, promote wellness, attract tourism, and increase economic development.

 Deliverables for the project included:

  • Development of outdoor recreation districts, with key recommendations and new recreation opportunities proposed.
  • The development of a proposed connectivity map including existing and proposed greenways and trails, blueways, and bike facilities.
  • A comprehensive list of recommendations, including actions to take in each of the districts.
  • A case for investment-economic impact case studies.
