Fletcher Stream Restoration

Client: NC DEQ Division of Mitigation Services

The Clean Water Act of 1972 requires that impacts to streams and wetlands during construction be mitigated by restoring a similar stream or wetland within the same impacted watershed. Equinox has teamed with EW Solutions and Wolf Creek Engineering and three landowners to provide stream and wetland mitigation within the French Broad River Watershed on two streams.   This full delivery project will involve:

  • landowner outreach and site acquisition
  • restoration design for two degraded creeks, Weston Creek and Fletcher Creek, tributaries for Fletcher Creek, and associated wetlands
  • environmental reviews
  • stream and wetland reconstruction
  • the establishment of conservation easements on the restored streams
  • and seven years of monitoring the site to assure its viability
This project is a win-win for the landowners because they will get a newly constructed stream that looks great, improves water quality for them and their downstream neighbors, and they also get compensated for doing it.
