Environmental Science Technician/Specialist: Stream and Wetland Monitoring

Equinox is looking for an environmental science technician or specialist with a minimum of 2 years of experience in collecting stream and wetland monitoring data. For consideration candidates will possess a university degree and demonstrate experience in the use of a total station for topographic surveying and stream geomorphology.  The successful applicant will be competent in ArcGIS, be knowledgeable of stream morphology and hydrologic functions, have strong familiarity with stream habitat, fish, and benthic organisms, and have experience with methods used for stream and wetland delineations.  Applicants with experience in North Carolina Division of Mitigation Services reporting are preferable.  This individual needs to be familiar with the regulatory environment as it applies to the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act and associated permitting.  He or she will be a dependable team player, and demonstrate effective oral and written communication as well as good interpersonal skills.  He or she will be resourceful, self-motivated, a quick learner, well organized and carry a positive and respectful attitude

The Stream & Wetland Monitoring Specialist must be willing and able to work independently on extended field days often under physically demanding conditions, in remote locations, and in inclement weather.  The candidate must have the ability to navigate a variety of terrain using maps, a compass, and GPS.  Work will frequently involve overnight travel.  He or she must also be comfortable and capable working in an office environment for extended periods.  The candidate must be able to interact professionally with staff, clients, landowners, and the general public.

Landscape Architect/Recreation Planner

Equinox is looking for a Landscape Architect or Planner that will contribute to the preparation of recreation plans at the local and regional level for greenway, trail, and park projects.  They will also be involved in master plans for multimodal improvement projects and water/natural resource efforts.  This person will conduct data collection, develop documents for planning projects that are graphic rich, and assist with client and stakeholder coordination and public outreach.

The ideal candidate shall demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Ability to make visually appealing and easy to read maps with GIS including the ability to organize and analyze data in GIS (ESRI programs)
  • Excellent command of Adobe suite (i.e. InDesign, Acrobat, etc.)
  • Ability to write clear, understandable, and highly readable planning documents
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of an organization
  • Ability to organize work and effectively manage time
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience with public process and relevant tools
  • Experience with Microsoft suite (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • 0-6 years of professional work experience
  • A professional Landscape Architecture (or other relevant) degree from and accredited college or university
