Rough Creek Wilderness Management & Master Plan

Client: Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy

The natural resources inventory performed by Equinox of the Rough Creek Watershed revealed significant conservation value of this 870 acre property which led to its permanent protection by the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.  The sheer number and quality of tributaries, springs, and wetlands in the Rough Creek watershed - combined with the sites extraordinary and unique presence of rare ecosystems, rare plants, old growth forest, and a historical landscape - all contribute to the status of this property as one of the more outstanding sites in Haywood County and indeed western North Carolina.  Equinox also developed an overall management and master plan for the property that would provide access to the miles of trails on the property without impacting the conservation values that make the property special.
